After much anticipation for a realistic guitar playing game and instructional title to make its way to third generation gaming systems I finally plugged into Rocksmith (PS3/Xbox 360/PC). Upon insertion of the disc you find out that Rocksmith has a better guitar playing you in store. Rarely before have I ever felt excited to tune my guitar. The colorful and audio responsive interface brings a delight to my guitar playing face that I had not recognized in the television reflection since the moment I picked out my first strat.
The sound response and visual interface of Rocksmith is brilliant and guided step-by-step for beginners and advanced players alike to become oriented with the guitar and correct approaches to playing. Toss out the plastic guitars and plug in your real instrument right to your console and within minutes you’re playing your first song. As a journeyman guitarist (iTunes: Danny Hauger, DannyHauger.com) I was skeptical as to the value for experienced musicians, and I was pleasantly surprised. I was enthralled from minute one in a way that no game has affected me in a decade.
Rocksmith takes the labor out of learning guitar by combining a video game with real music instruction that is as fun for experienced players and newbies to get a hold of. Short summation: if you know someone who wants to play guitar, this game is a must. With guitar amp models and many popular songs there is a plethora of replay value. The mini games and graphical presentation will leave you strumming for a nearly infinite timeframe while the game tracks your progress and skill and teaches you guitar method that your plastic button clanking friends will envy as you learn.
Big credit to Ubisoft games for producing a guitar style game and lesson interface that isn’t a waste of time and pushes a positive talent building process into an exciting new dimension that has raised the bar for music-based gaming.
