I received the opportunity to play Injustice: Gods Among Us at Comic Con’s preview night. Ed Boon revealed Nightwing and Cyborg as a newly playable characters. This was great news for me. Nightwing is one of my favorite comic book heroes, and when he wasn’t revealed in the first announcement, I was disappointed. The excitement as I waited in line was unbearable.
In the game each player can choose two different fighting styles, or gimicks as the developer phrased it. In one mode, Nightwing’ weilds Escrima sticks, making him very agile. You can sacrifice the the swiftness for harder blows by switching over to a staff. The special attacks or combos break out into a beautiful action sequence. For Nightwing, he rides through the stage on his signature motor cycle striking the opponent. He then jumps off displaying his acrobatic talents only to pummel away at the enemy. What an epic way to end a match.
As far as graphics goes, this game looked very pixelated. To be honest, I think the exhibitors forgot to use HDMI chords to demo the game. The game play is very reminiscent to Mortal Kombat games, brutal and beautifully cinematic. The game is not cut down into matches but the instead you have 3 health bars that once diminished ends the round. This allows the player to have an epic battle that’s never interrupted.
This is major step up from Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe, and if the finished game is as good as the demo, it will blow it away.
