As Gamescom draws near, tidbits of gaming news have been popping up here and there. The press conferences have started, and Sony’s already bringing out the big guns. The creators of LittleBigPlanet, Media Molecule, have announced their new IP titled Tearaway. Finally, a full blown Vita game that utilizes the handheld’s features and puts the rear touch pad to good use. I’m growing so sick of the tacked-on touch features most Vita games are advertised with. Along with LBP Vita, you can fully interact with the game world by shaking, touching, photographing, and even blowing into the Vita. I’m definitely loving the papercraft aesthetic and character design. It looks like Viva Piñata made a baby with Wind Waker.
In Tearaway, you take control of a messanger boy named iota who’s trying to deliver a letter to…you. Yes, that’s how their description reads! Every player has his or her own unique message to open at the end of the adventure:
“Using the god-like powers inherent to someone who can hold an entire world in their giant hands, you can make your presence felt using a whole range of godly powers that take advantage of all of the Vita’s bells and whistles—some subtle and some epic. You can shake things up or turn them upside down. A gentle breath from you is a gusty storm. You can even poke your fingers into the back of the PS Vita to tear through into the world and help iota complete this very special delivery.”
MM is also providing a printable download of the papercraft elk seen in the trailer, if you’d like to assemble one yourself. Here’s the trailer, as well as the first screenshots released:
Gamescom starts tomorrow! We’ll keep you updated as the news breaks.
